-- CTF to Use Its Award Winning Web Site as Election Information Portal --
Tale of the Tape
OTTAWA: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) today responded to the announcement by Prime Minister Jean Chretien that he has asked Governor General Adrienne Clarkson to dissolve Parliament for a general election to be held on Monday, November 27th.
"The Prime Minister has finally revealed the worst kept secret in Ottawa, it's time to vote," noted CTF federal director Walter Robinson. "We are going to ensure that Canadians are given more than a sterile discussion of values. Marking an "X" on an election ballot has to be about more than voting for mom and apple pie."
"We plan to utilize our web site as an election portal for taxpayers with links to the each party's web site and platforms, the latest national polling data, current national news headlines, along with speeches, commentaries and issue analyses that we will release as a normal course of business, whether this election was happening or not. Encouraging taxpayers and voters to take greater ownership of public policy is what we're all about," added Robinson. "However, we will not endorse political parties or candidates. We never have and that practice is not about to change."
The CTF will also post analysis of each party's election platform commitments on tax cuts and spending promises on its weekly Spend-0-Meter to be released each Wednesday (and posted on the CTF web site) during the campaign.

The CTF also released its Tale Of The Tape - Election 2000 summary of the political party leaders, current House of Commons seat standings and latest standings in the public opinion polls.
